Facebook, the most popular social networking website in the UK with 8.9 million users announced late last year that they are working on a redesign of their members profile pages. Facebook who first opened its doors to the general public in 2006 will be making its first design “update” in its history.
Above you can see a preview of what this will look like. The alteration will make user profile pages "simpler, cleaner and more relevant".
The main reason I first joined facebook was that it was really easy to navigate around as everyone’s profile pages are laid out exactly the same, unlike the users profiles on other social networking site such as MySpace.
However, with the huge increase of third-party software available to users have cluttered profiles. Pages have become extremely difficult to view some profiles require a great deal of scrolling before the relevant section that you are looking for is reached.
As you can see by the above example of the new layout, profile pages will be divided up into separate sections: Wall, About us, Photos. These sections will be increased when a user adds applications, feeds etc. Making this alteration will make it much easier to navigate around a user’s profile, in addition to significantly reducing load times.
